FAQs

Where do your donations go to?

Dottie & Mae is a Sacramento, CA based small business. I believe charity work should start within your own community first, which is why 5% of all sales are donation to theSacramento LGBT Community Center. The Center provides a multitude of resources for the queer community and I am proud to be able to support their work.

Where are your products made?

All clothing and accessories are handmade in house. All of Dottie & Mae’s products are made in the USA (CA specifically.)

Where do you get your fabrics and materials?

At Dottie & Mae, our mission is to reduce our carbon footprint and give textile waste a second life. Our fabrics are all 100% reclaimed textile waste. They may be recycled, deadstock, remnants, thrifted, and even up-cycled/repurposed from vintage clothing and/or household linens (such as sheets, drapes, tablecloths, etc). Many of our notions and trims are also sourced this way, while others are purchased new.

*Due to the way our materials are sourced, we cannot guarantee that all fabric and notions were manufactured in the USA since that information is not usually available when purchasing materials secondhand.

*Due to the way our materials are sourced, NONE of our products are intended to be sleepwear and should not be used as such.

All of our fabrics comply with the US CPSC standards.

Who are Dottie & Mae?

Dottie & Mae is named after founder Kali's great grandmothers, Dorothy & Willie Mae. Both grew up during the Great Depression and had to upcycle out of necessity. They were practicing sustainable fashion long before we had a name for it.
